The Balm of God’s Word

Wisdom and long life are intertwined. Wisdom will deliver long life to you, and God’s word is wisdom. When you practice God’s word you are practicing wisdom. When you listen to God’s word you are hearing wisdom. When you allow God’s word to take root in your heart you are allowing wisdom to take root in your heart.
There are sicknesses and diseases in the world; in fact, the world is cursed. But God’s children are redeemed. Although in the world, we are not of the world. We are citizens of the kingdom. God has made provision in His word for us to escape the calamities in the world? We are in the world to make the earth look like heaven.
“For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts. Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments” (Mal 4:1-4).
Although committed to our healing, there are laws God made to govern our body. It is the observance of these laws that help us to be healthy, even though there is healing for us in His wings. Our guarantee for healthy living in a dying world is in what I call the Balm of His Word or the Balm of Gilead, i.e. His word.
“When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart is faint in me. Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities? The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me. Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?” (Jer 8:18-22)
God was amazed that in spite of His word His people were still sick. Ps 107:20 says: “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions”. The Great Physician is Jesus and He is here, and the word of God is the Balm in Gilead.

Gilead in the Old Testament

“…The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “…you shall appoint cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer who kills any person accidentally may flee there. These six cities shall be for refuge for the children of Israel, for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them, that anyone who kills a person accidentally may flee there” (Num 35:9-15 NKJV).
Gilead represented the coming together of God’s people. It was one of the seven cities known as the cities of refuge. An offender was free from harm as long as he remained there. It was a city of security and safety until a sitting high priest died, and then he was punished. One of these cities was Ramoth-gilead. God is therefore saying that Gilead is a city of refuge for the afflicted, hence the question: “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there…?” No matter the name a sickness is called, God heals all our diseases.
In the New Testament, the assembly of God’s people is Gilead. We are in Gilead each time we come together. Gen 49:10 says, “Unto God shall the gathering of the people be.” God is in our midst when two or three of us come together in His name. That is a Gilead. In such meetings your healing is guaranteed. No enemy is allowed to tamper with you. Unlike in the Old Testament, our High Priest, Jesus Christ, in this dispensation, lives forever. Our safety and security are guaranteed forever.

Effect of God’s Word

God’s word has a cleansing and flushing out effect on you as you listen to it repeatedly; there is healing anointing and a soothing effect on your system. The word guarantees your total recovery from affliction. Jesus said His words are spirit and life (John 6:63). The word heals; it flushes out every strange thing in your life.
You are being treated as you listen to God’s word. You are like a car to undergo thorough servicing in a mechanic workshop. As you listen to God’s word, it goes into your system to ensure you receive total attention, thus bringing transformation to your life. The word changes you and your belief system. When you understand the church as Gilead and that each time you are in a service, there is a healing effect, you will love to be in church.
“And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them” (Luke 5:17).
Our coming together constitutes Gilead.
“…Even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish” (Eph 5:25-27).
Jesus gave His life as a ransom to redeem us. The word is the water He uses to wash the church. So God’s word has a washing ministry in your life. God’s word at work in your life is the Balm of Gilead.
It is said that about 90% of diseases is traceable to the condition of the mind. But God’s word has a cleansing effect on the mind; it can wash the mind of unbelief and all wrong beliefs that afflict the mind. The word builds faith in you. It tells you that all things are possible, including what the world says is. It imbues you with faith, without which you cannot please God or get whatever you need from the spiritual market.

“Even as your Soul…”

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 2).
You prosper in health to the degree that your soul prospers. God’s word prospers your soul. Fear can cause sickness, but God’s word can eliminate it from your mind and give you boldness. God’s word says that that if God be for you who can be against you. In God’s word you learn that you have His righteousness. God’s word washes away every virus that causes sickness and disease to the human body.
This is why you must be available to hear God’s word. If you are healthy in your mind your body will be healthy. What makes you sad will be dealt with by God’s word. God’s word gives you hope and a future, the absence of which cause people to commit suicide. When you see your tomorrow according to God’s word you will rejoice today. When your mind is joyful you won’t succumb to sickness. God’s word gives you peace so that you do not fret. God’s word determines the prosperity of your soul per time and this determines how healthy you live per time.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Col 3:16).
You will sing songs of joy and victory when God’s word dwells richly in you. With the word assuring you of God’s love you will not be bothered about people’s hatred. Every child of God that will remain healthy must be word-loaded. To live securely and healthy in a sickness infested world you must be loaded with God’s word. It is the divine immunity against the attack of sickness and disease.
Kenneth Hagin was bedridden for 16yrs until he encountered Mark 11:24: “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” From that point he would spend five hours daily on the word. It’s no wonder he did not suffer headache for once in sixty years. Do you read your Bible? Do you listen to God’s or you go to church as a ritual? You live by the faith that you cultivate in God’s word. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom 10:17).

The Spirit of Man

“The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity…” (Pro 18:14). The spirit is the essence of life; the body is useless once the spirit departs. It is the spirit that sustains and gives life to the body. How you treat your spirit determines how your body will respond. The best treatment you can give to your spirit is word menu. The stronger you are on the inside the stronger you are on the outside. Bosworth said that some people feed their bodies with three hot meals daily but feed their spirit with one cold snack a week, yet they wonder why they don’t have faith. It is God’s word in your heart that makes it strong. A weak heart will be overcome by sickness easily. The sickness that overcomes your body first overcomes your heart. Until it overcomes your mind it cannot overcome your body. Until you accept it in your mind it cannot get into your body. This is why Satan first introduces it to your mind before your body. When your spirit is sound your mind will be sound and this will affect your body. Then you can resist the devil and his baggage of sickness and death in Jesus name.
When God’s word dwells in you richly no negative revelation or dream will unsettle you. As long as your heart is strong enough to reject it, it will fail. But if you have a weak heart, fear will take over and in a matter of time the devil will strike.
When your spirit is strong, you can reject whatever does not agree with God’s word, instead of running helter-skelter for help. The word of God will strengthen your heart. The word will prosper the spirit and the spirit will prosper the body.

My Son…

“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh” (Pro 4:20-22). One version says they are medicines… i.e. spiritual capsules. God’s word is to be in your heart, not on the shelf or under your pillow or in your handbag.
Somebody testified that the shoes he had on were the first he ever wore in life. It turned out that his legs had been crippled and twisted so that he could not wear shoes. Getting hold of a recorded message by a man of God, he listened to it for months till the legs were straightened. Another lady in a wheelchair began to listen to God’s word. She was so engrossed with the word that she did not know when she was healed and began to do the things she could not earlier. God’s word heals!
Every scripture you find injects life into your system. God’s word is the powerful medicine without side effect or overdose! Keep listening to it; keep reading it; keep meditating on it; keep declaring it; it is healing to your flesh. You cannot run away from the word and expect to be healed. Even when you are prayed for and you are healed, you still need faith from the word to ward off further sickness. If your heart is weak you will welcome it back quickly.
You can come to a point in God’s word that you no longer fear anything, not even death. God’s word will put faith and boldness in your heart.

A Word of Caution

We do not oppose medication. See a doctor if you need to. But don’t depend on medication alone. Many lives have been saved through medication. Take your medication by faith declaring your healing in the name of Jesus. I believe that medical personnel are doing the will of God.
A man had diabetes and was on drugs as well as confessing God’s word. When he suffered complications and went for a test, the result revealed that though he was healed, the drug he was still taking was responsible for the complications. Are you on medication, continue, but mix it with faith. But give God’s word its place as you take your medication. A time is coming your faith will be strong enough you may no longer need medicine.
However, give priority attention to God’s word in your life and feed fat on faith-building materials.

The Effect of Attitude on Health

Health is holistic; it covers the spiritual, mental and physical health. These three are interconnected. 3 John 2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” What goes on in your mind affects your body. A good portion of ill health originates first from the mind. In very recent time majority of physicians agree that there is a mind-body connection that could create wellness or illness in an individual.
A man was sick. He was examined in the hospital. The result revealed that he was HIV positive. Two weeks after, his body had become so emaciated that he was almost dead. Another patient in the same hospital who, coincidentally, answered the same name was given a HIV negative result. Unfortunately, these were swapped results. While the man with the clean bill was actually HIV positive, the man with the HIV negative result was actually positive. But the man with the HIV negative report was not getting any better while the other man was dying fast. Worried by the development, another test was conducted on the two men. It was discovered that the reports had been swapped! The management had to apologise for the mix up. Interestingly, within two weeks the health of the man who had earlier been declared HIV positive improved greatly. But for the discovery he would have died! But was it HIV that would have killed him? No. The truth is that his mind accepted the HIV message and began to respond to it!
It is possible to eat good food and still have a sickly body if you have a troubled mind. An HIV positive report does not translate to death sentence. Put the past behind you. You are a child of God, a new creature in Christ. You have been healed by Jesus’ stripes. God heals all your diseases (Ps. 103:3), all of them, not some. Claim your healing and live positively.

A Merry Heart

The scripture states clearly that the power of joy is one of the agencies for the elimination of diseases. Sickness cannot touch a man whose mind is filled with joy. “A merry heart (mind) doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones” (Pro 17:22). What your mind produces will either make you to be well or sick. Neh 8:10 says that the joy of the Lord is your strength. An always joyful man is an always healthy man; his mind produces a medicine-like substance that keeps his body healthy.
No matter the situation, never give up or think that you are finished. God created you for a purpose. Never let any situation weigh you down. Your situation will change very soon. The Scripture says: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:6-7).
Do yourself good by living worry-free and being joyful always. Jesus said: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Certain situations will arise to trouble you, but Jesus said, “Be cheerful.” Even in tough times, be cheerful. Your present situation is temporal, not permanent. The joy of the Lord should remain your strength.
Your mind is important to your health. There is a place for good eating and another for a sound mind. Good eating without a sound mind equal ill health. Bad eating will do to your body what a troubled mind will do to it. Stop worrying over what you do not have now. Things will get better. Your present position is temporal. That is why you should cheer up.

The Mind

The Mayo brothers of Mayo Clinic, Minnesotta at one time came out with the statement that disease is 90% mental. Some other experts even said that disease is all mental, meaning that most diseases originate from the mind. The mind is a battlefield. The devil will first attack the mind when he wants to attack a man. The Bible says that he blinds people’s mind so that even when they see they do not perceive; when they hear they do not understand. He wants to control the mind. Hijackers first attack and seize a plane’s cockpit, because it is the control centre. Who controls the cockpit controls the entire plane and the destiny of everybody on board. Your mind is the cockpit of your life and the target of the devil. Once he seizes your mind then he has you where he wants you.
Once the devil can seize a mind he begins to introduce evil things into it. When you feel somehow, for example, he tells you: “That is typhoid fever.” If you accept it and call it your typhoid, then you have typhoid. You do not have to accept a parcel from a courier if your name is not on it. That parcel of the devil does not have your name on it; reject it. God’s will for you is good health.
Doctors are beginning to realise that certain people will not respond to medication alone. Medicine alone will not work as long as the mind is troubled. What is disease? It is made up of two words: dis (not) and ease, meaning not at ease. You do not feel well when you are not at ease about something. So correct what is making you feel unwell and you will feel better.

How the Conscious and the Subconscious Function

The conscious mind refers to the outer self, i.e. the real you, the boss that issues orders and makes the choices. The subconscious mind, i.e. the inner self, works perfectly. It is creative, always on duty, and never sleeps. It takes care of the inner functions of the body. It is the servant of the conscious man, i.e. you yourself. The subconscious takes and works with whatever you say, whether good or bad. It is always working, never sleeps or slumbers. The Bible says: “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Eph 5:19-20). This is important because the subconscious receives and works with whatever you say. When you say it is well with you, it picks it up and works with it. That is why you must never speak negatively about yourself. Never say you are finished otherwise your subconscious will accept and begin to work towards finishing you. When you say a problem is temporal, the subconscious will respond, “Let us be quick and terminate it.”
Your words matter. God told Joshua: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Josh 1:8). No matter how tough a situation is, never confess the toughness; confess the word of God. Be careful who speaks to you, as what you hear affects you. Put aside the doctor’s negative report; find out what God’s word says about it and begin to declare it. Your subconscious mind will begin to respond to that word. This was what happened to the man who was told that he was HIV positive even though he was not. His subconscious mind must have heard, “Death has come!” and responded: “Ok, let us get ready to die.”
Stop thinking that you cannot do well in Nigeria; you can. Change the way you think. The children of Israel, except Joshua and Caleb, missed out on the Promised Land because of their mindset. They left Egypt with an Egyptian mindset always thinking of returning to Egypt. Many people are saved but their minds are not yet transformed. That is why the Bible says, “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Think well; talk well; behave well; look well and you will live well.
Learn to be at ease. Relax! Do not worry. Tell yourself what is right and good, no matter what. Watch what you say around a sick person so that you do not compound his problem. Do not tell him about the number of persons that have died of that disease, tell him what God’s word’s says about his healing and those that have been healed of it.
Eat well; eat good food. David said: “He (God) satisfies my mouth with good things,” not junks, and “renews my youth like the eagle’s.” In addition, Solomon said, “a merry heart does good like medicine.”
A man of over 80yrs died having been knocked down by a vehicle. An autopsy was carried out on him. The doctor discovered that he had some diseases in his body that could have killed him 20yrs earlier. So he asked the daughter if he had been sick. She replied that he was never sick. He told her his finding about the diseases, expressing his surprise that the man lived up to that time. When asked what she thought about it, the daughter replied, “We never knew, but I know that each morning daddy woke up, he would say, “I am terrific this morning!”
Another man had been bent over by sickness and old age and so could not walk straight. One day, as he flipped through his photo album, he saw a picture where as a young man he was standing straight. He enlarged it and hung it on the wall. Each time he stood before the picture, he would say: “That is me over there!” He continued doing this until one day he straightened up and began to walk properly. His mind kept telling him: “That is you there.”

How the Subconscious Works

You only see a little portion of an iceberg, the biggest part of it is inside the water. That little portion is the conscious mind, but the biggest invisible part is the subconscious mind. Both work together. When you are stressed or worried, your body secretes a powerful hormone called adrenalin. Its effect in the body is comparable to that of rocket fuel in a missile. It is shot into your blood to give you an immediate boost of energy or strength to do the unusual.
A man was on a mango tree eating some mangoes. Looking down, he saw a dog looking menacingly at him. As soon as he alighted the dog was in hot pursuit. Before him was a tall fence. With a burst of energy, he was on the other side. Looking back at the fence, he wondered how he scaled it. It was the adrenalin secreted in him that made him perform that feat. Being in an unusual situation can give your body a dose of adrenalin that will make you do the unusual.
When adrenalin is released into your system because of worry and stress, it becomes poisonous and dangerous, as it is not useful. Ordinarily it is designed to be burnt off immediately, but if not, it can affect you adversely as your body does not know whether it is being attacked from within or without. Worry therefore causes attack on your body system. A critical attitude puts your body on an all point alert and your internal system on the offensive. Small doses of adrenalin drip into your blood system such that you become irritable, cynical, age fast, and hurting. Even after 8hrs sleep you are still up tired. Your body is at work while worrying, even though you are asleep. You cannot sleep when you are worried. But insomnia does not solve any problem.
Medical researchers say that stress and worry cause more internal damage than we realise. It is in view of this that the Bible says: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Phil 4:6). It also says, “Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled” (Heb 12:15).
Bitterness and worry, a result of stress, can cause internal damage. Physiologically we are affected by fear, insecurity and unresolved bitterness, which weaken the immune system and make us prone to diseases. Over 365times the Bible says “fear not”.
In spite of Joseph’s travails, he took care of his mind by refusing to be bitter. No matter what is done to you, refuse to be bitter, because bitterness weakens your immune system. Free your mind of offences; resolve misunderstandings immediately.
A terrible perspective on life can rob you of good health. Pro 23:7 says that a man is as he thinks. Continuous confession that things are bad in Nigeria will ultimately reflect on you. There is good in Nigeria. Things will get better.
We are willing to go on exotic diet, good health, good eating and take pills to reduce our cholesterol level. In addition to these we need a better attitude towards life. The presence of adrenalin in your blood system can increase your cholesterol account by 40%. I know you are eating well, but what is eating you? How healthy are you in your mind? That is the key to how healthy you will be in your body.

Wisdom for Good Health – 2

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour” (Pro 3:13-16).
We have observed that wisdom has something to do with good health and long life. It springs from the knowledge and obedience to God’s word (Matt 7:24). What you eat affects your health, whether positively or negatively. A healthy eating lifestyle is crucial to a healthy life. (For the complete discussion, pls. obtain a copy of last week’s edition from the church office.

Soft Drinks

Some students went on excursion to a soft drink manufacturing company. On getting to a room containing many crates of soft drinks, they were told they could drink as much as they wanted. Surprised, the team leader told head of the dept and said: “You must be enjoying here with all these drinks at your beck and call.” The staff replied: “I dare not touch any of these with my mouth, knowing what we mix together here.” A staff in a sister company was quoted as saying: “I pity those who buy these products.”
Soft drink is not equal to water. It does not quench thirst. Water is the body’s vehicle to flush out the waste products in normal body functioning. You therefore need a lot of water, not soft drink. You must do something about your soft drink intake; apart from losing money thereby, you also stuff your system with diseases.
“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any” (1 Cor 6:12). Another version says: “Everything is permissible (allowable and lawful) for me; but not all things are helpful (good for me to do, expedient and profitable when considered with other things). Everything is lawful for me, but I will not become the slave of anything or be brought under its power” (AMP).
Okay, what you eat is permissible, but is it beneficial to your body? What you eat should be nutritious to your system. It should give you energy, and not stuff it with harmful chemicals. There is nothing soft about soft drink. Its composition is water, 10-12 teaspoonfuls of sugar, chemicals and colourings that are harmful to the body. Science has proved that a teaspoonful of sugar sends your immunities to sleep for 4hrs; immunities are soldiers that God put in your body to ward off and defend you against diseases. But a teaspoonful of sugar sends them to sleep. Imagine the extent of harm you do to your body when you take 12teaspoonfuls of sugar in a bottle of soft drink! Alarmingly, some people take two or more daily. There is even sugar in virtually everything you eat which the body needs.
The sugar in soft drink is harmful to the body. Diabetes is not a demon; it is simply too much sugar in the body. Soft drink is quickest way to get sugar and chemicals into your body. The man who takes soft drink is not different from the man who takes beer. While beer provokes loss of senses temporarily, soft drink immobilizes man’s immunity thereby making his body open to attacks by diseases. Instead of soft drink, drink water.
Cancer, for example, is caused by cells that have become radicals and have begun to misbehave. They multiply by reproducing themselves. It is okay for normal cells to multiply so as to replace old ones. example, when you have an injury multiplied cells help to refill the spot. But when a cell becomes radical as a result of the depletion of the immunity, it starts to reproduce itself. As it does this, it looks for a weak place to attach itself. If it is the breast, it is called cancer of the breast. This is how cancer spreads in the body. It takes several yrs for the deadly effect of cancer to be noticeable.

You, Salt and Fried Foods

What do you expect God to do when you choose to mismanage your body? When He heals you, you must stop doing what caused the illness. If you don’t, you have yourself to blame when next you fall sick.
Some people eat trouble (e.g. donut) and use trouble (soft drink) to ‘wash’ it down. Donut is made from refined flour, refined sugar, saturated fats before it is fried. Fried foods are bad.
You need to cut down your intake of highly processed foods and snacks; they are bad for your health. Snacks are highly salted, yet too much sodium is harmful to the body. Junk food stuffs your body with toxins, poison to the body. Many of those who sell junk foods do not touch them with a long pole. The effects will show up later when you have forgotten your negative eating lifestyle of yesteryears. It is then you live the rest of your life on drugs and soliciting prayers for healing. Prayer for healing will not work if you consistently engage in poisoning your system through eating the wrong thing and breaking God’s laws.
Much salt is a factor in many diseases. You need salt sparingly. ‘Most seasonings are made up of chemicals that are harmful to the body. Because of man’s desperation to make money he mixes different chemicals under different labels that he releases into the market daily, most of which is harmful to the body. Breweries smile to the banks daily because of people’s insatiable appetite for their product. To conceal the harm, the label tells you that it contains so and so vitamins.

Baked Foods, Oils and Protruding Stomach

What many bakeries call bread is refined wheat and sugar, with destroyed nutrients, mixed with some very high saturated fats. To worsen it, potassium bromate (which helps it to swell) is added, and this is harmful to the body. The entire constituents are junk. Compare original wheat with refined wheat from flour mills. Refined wheat cannot be as rich in nutrients as original wheat. About 21 nutrients are destroyed when wheat is refined. To make it look good for you to buy, the millers print on the label: “Enriched with vitamin A.” You do not need to add anything to any original thing from the ground.
Fat is a nutrient the body needs a limited amount of, for lubrication and transportation of fat soluble vitamins. But it is also a very concentrated way of getting calories and diseases.
The best cooking oil is olive oil; unfortunately it is scarce and expensive. Most oils displayed on supermarket shelves are faked. Original olive oil does not freeze when kept in the freezer. Any. Pure groundnut oil is also goo. Reduce your fat intake as much as possible. Train your children also to avoid too many sweet things.
A protruding stomach is a sign of sickness and bad eating habit, not evidence of good living. Again, thinness does not mean that you have no fats in your body, and not an excuse to be eating excess fat. The fatter you are the more dehydrated you are and the more prone you are to diseases. It is evidence of accumulation of poisonous things in your system.
An adult needs less food. If you want to reduce your pot belly stop eating after 7pm; in no time it will go down. God’s intention is that the body will rest from eating as from 8pm. This is why people wake up tired than when they go to bed. Late eating engages your body in work instead of resting Ask yourself the nutritional value of what is before you before you sit down to eat it.

Bowel Transit Time (BTT)

The Bowel Transit Time (BTT) is 24hrs; i.e. from the time food enters your mouth to the time it comes out as waste should be 24hrs. This is why red meat is not good for the body; meat stays in the body for 72hrs. Pork (pig) meat stays longer. God’s original food to Adam and Eve was vegetable and fruits, not meat. This is why you foul the air when you fart (release gas through your anus). The longer meat stays in the body the more poisonous it becomes. As a result some people may not go to the toilet for two days; when finally they do, they excrete with much stress.
When you skip breakfast and do not go to the toilet, your body starts to reabsorb what you should have excreted. You should go to the toilet daily, at least once or twice. You should excrete within 24hrs after digestion.
If your immune system is weakened your resistance against diseases will be lowered, and you become prone to infection. The body of a newly born child comprises 80% alkaline and 20% acid. But over time because of wrong eating habit the equation reverses. He has more acid than alkaline, and cancer cells are more at home in acidic environment; in fact, they feed on simple sugar. We make our body more favourable to diseases by what we eat. Before you start praying for healing, take stock of what you eat. Moderation is the word.
“When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite” (Pro 23:1-2).
Not everything that is set before you is good for your body. Wisdom demands that you eat the right thing. Instead of refined and processed food with destroyed nutrients, why not feed on natural foods? The manna the children of Israel ate contained all that their body needed. But when they cried for meat and he gave them quail, they ate until it oozed out of their nostrils. It caused the death of many. (Read Num 14).
“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat (food)” (Gen 1:29).
God gave man vegetable, fruits and herbs. Instead of juice, eat orange; eat apple, take water melon, banana, pineapple, carrot, onion, etc. You will enjoy better health.

Genesis of Meat Eating

Meat eating started after Noah’s flood. “And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things” (Gen 9:1-3).
It was after man started to eat meat that his life expectancy began to drop. God gave the children of Israel the best in the manna He offered to them. He knows what is best for you; He did not give them meat. If you must eat meat, eat moderately. Fish is better because of its water content, and it digests faster; unlike meat that over labours the digestive system, constituting a problem to the body. Man’s original food was from the ground.
Learn to rest; your body needs it. Avoid stress in every form. Your mind is a pharmacy. Pray that God will forgive you for misusing your body and also help you to manage it properly. Stop using the scripture to justify bad habits. Some people refer to Paul’s advice to Timothy to take wine for his stomach trouble to justify their alcohol intake. Do they want Timothy’s stomach trouble? Do they know the wine Paul recommended?
Engage in physical exercise such as taking a walk or jogging regularly to keep fit. You need your body to stay alive and fulfil God’s purpose on earth. You are elevated!

Wisdom for Good Health – 1

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour” (Pro 3:13-16).
Wisdom has something to do with length of days. Eccl 7:11 says: “Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun.” Wisdom will deliver inheritance to you. Long life is our inheritance in Christ. Our covenant fathers lived very long to fulfil God’s purpose for their lives on earth. For example, Abraham lived for 175yrs, Isaac 180yrs, Jacob 132yrs, Moses 120, and Joshua 110yrs respectively. All of these patriarchs lived long. It was King David who said that man’s lifespan is 70yrs or 80yrs (Ps. 90: 10). But in Ps 91, having learnt better he then said, “God shall satisfy me with long life” (Ps 91:16).
Wisdom is the foundation for long life and obedience to God’s word is akin to wisdom (Matt 7:24). It God’s word conveys wisdom to us.

In the Beginning…

In the beginning, there was no provision for drugs in the Garden of Eden as God never planned sickness for mankind. Sickness and diseases came after Adam and Eve sinned and fell from God’s perfect plan for man. In our previous editions (copies of which are obtainable in the church office) on the principles of the kingdom, we observed that Jesus came to restore man to where Adam fell from, and that is the place of dominion. If we are now in Christ, meaning that we have been restored to the place of dominion, why then do Christians, i.e. covenant children of God, fall sick? Now we have redemption and the Bible says “…by whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Note that the scripture speaks in past tense, not in future tense. This means that it is a done deal. But then the question remains: Why then do the children of God still fall sick and some die early?

A Lesson from Benny Hinn and Rod Parsley

Some years ago, I was watching Benny Hinn, the healing evangelist, ministering on Trinity Broadcast Network (TBN). He recalled how he asked God this question: “Why are believers still sick and dying of diseases when the Bible says that we are covenant children with provision for good health.” He had a Christian medical doctor on air with him the programme. He said that God told him that it was because of what His children were eating. He explained that that was why he brought doctors on his programmes to educate Christians on what to eat.
On another occasion, I was listening to Rev Rod Parsley talk about how he approached an insurance company for life insurance. He was told by the company doctor that they could not insure him. When he sought to know why, he was told that he was quarter to death. However, he was informed that he could be insured if he agreed to pay a very high premium. When he visited his doctor, he was told that there was hope if he would comply with the instruction he would give him. Then the doctor began to prescribe what to eat and what not to eat. As the doctor mentioned each item, he would reply, “But doctor, that is my main menu!” Then the doctor replied: “That is why your situation is the way it is.”

Sickness and Death: Result of Abuse of the Body

We console ourselves each time somebody dies by saying that God knows why or ask who we are to query God’s timing. But the truth is that many people die because they fall sick regularly or die prematurely because they abused their bodies, and not that God has taken them away before their time. You would recall in our discussion on the principle of mismanagement (you can obtain a copy of the bulletin on this topic from the office) that you will lose whatever you abuse or mismanage.
“And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Gen 2:15-17).
Although man was free to eat anything, there was a caveat; he had a warning not to eat certain things or else he would die. This means that there are certain things to eat and certain things not to eat. They were all fruits and each one looked beautiful and appealing, but God cautioned them not to eat everything if they were not to die prematurely. It is true that everything God created could be eaten as food, but it is not everything that is nutritious to the human body. It is not everything called food that delivers energy to the body; some are poison decorated in tempting colours. For example, a vehicle was manufactured with certain guiding principles for its maintenance. There are different compartments and certain fluids to put in them. There is a compartment to put water, another one for petrol or gas, and another one for hydraulic, etc. To put something else in any of these compartments other than the recommended is to endanger the vehicle. You violate the manufacturer’s principle by so doing and should be prepared for the consequences.
The same thing applied to the management of the human body. When God made you He put a processing machine in your body. He made your body with certain principles guiding its operation. So when you mix up things anyhow you get into trouble.
What, for example, do you think is the nutritional value of alcohol and cigarette? Are you aware that a man that is in a drunken state is worse than a mad man at that particular moment? A mad man knows that an oncoming car can kill, but the man who is in a drunken state may even stumble towards the car unaware that it can kill.
The earth is made for man; this is why God gave us (as a spirit) a body to live on earth. You die the moment you lose your body. Your spirit is no longer qualified to live on earth. You head for heaven temporarily until God destroys the earth and creates a new one and then clothes you with an immortal body to return to live here. For now you need your body to live on earth to fulfil your purpose. You must therefore be mindful what you eat if you want to live long and fulfil God’s purpose for your life on earth, otherwise what you eat may just eat you up.
Many people shorten their lives by what they eat. So many others are digging their graves with their teeth. They bite and swallow anything that comes their ways. For them anything goes as long as it is tasty and appealing. But when the harm is done they start running helter-skelter for prayers of healing and deliverances. There is a place for the word of God; there is a place for prayer and there is a place for the choice of what goes into your mouth. Many people blame the devil for what they suffer in their body forgetting that they gave him the power to afflict them at will through their negative eating habit. If that is your lifestyle then you are putting yourself under the devil.
As a child of God, Satan is no longer in control of your life; he cannot determine what happens to you. The unfortunate thing is that most people use their hands to cause trouble for themselves. And when something goes wrong they turn around to blame God, people or the devil. When you blame the devil for what happens to you it means that you are acknowledging his lordship over you. Who should be under the other, you or the devil? You are above the devil; you are seated far above principality and power.
“Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Eph 2:5-6).
“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church” (Eph 1:19-22).
God has put all things under the feet of His children; so stop blaming anybody for your health condition when you can take control through a healthy eating lifestyle.

What You Eat Affects Your Health

The result of a bad eating habit does not show up immediately; it shows up later. You can use 30yrs poisoning your body through what you eat without knowing that it will have a negative telling effect on your health later. Right now you maybe eating some things that are poisonous to your body but because you are not seeing the effect yet you may think it is okay to go ahead. Sometimes when I consider what I know now I wish some of us knew them earlier than now, perhaps the story would have been different. But it is not too later though to change our lifestyle as we acquire relevant knowledge.
Some of the things we once thought were foods were not foods at all. They were not healthy for our bodies to absorb. We were plagued by indulgences over what we ate because we thought we were enjoying these things when we munched them at will; we did not exercise self-control. If it is the devil that is attacking you, we know how to deal with him as children of authority. But how do we help you if you are the one attacking yourself? There are things you must not eat or else they will eat you up in the process. This is why you need to watch what you eat.
Most of the things we eat are actually junks. They are highly processed fine flour snacks or foods lacking in basic nutrients for the human body. The Word Web defines junk as the remains of something that has been destroyed or broken up. Most of what we eat in our eateries is known as junk food; that is what the Englishman calls them. Junks foods therefore are foods that are lacking in nutrients. They are not good for your health, even if they taste so well.
God’s first provision for good health is nutrition. That was why He gave Adam and Eve good food, not drugs. Even while God took the children of Israel from Egypt en route the Promised Land none of them fell sick on the way. The Bible records that for 40yrs not one of them was them feeble, because God fed them directly. Everything in the manna He provided for them was good for their body. The Bible records:
“And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna : and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey” (Ex 16:31). Again it says: “He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person…” (Ps 105:37).
If you eat what is right you won’t need drugs. Injection will be far from you if you take everything in the right proportion. Watch every one that lives to be old and find out what they eat and their eating lifestyle. It is the secret of longevity. No matter how prayerful you are, what you eat has effect on you physically.
“And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets. And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not. So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof” (2 Kings 4:38-40 emphasis added).
There are many pots, bottles and cans of foods and drinks that contain death. Many of them carry poisons. People are so desperate these days that they want to make money at all cost. Many bottled wines are poisons. There are good ones though. Some of these cheap wines with Made in France labels were packaged in a corner in somebody’s one room apartment. If you visit some bakeries you will hate to eat bread.
There is need for scientific dietary control of what you eat. Before you look for a surgeon, look for a nutritionist to advise you on what is most suitable for your body, considering various factors including age and the job you do. He can prescribe to you the foods that will be best for the maintenance of your health.
God, the Psalmist said: “…satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s (Ps 103:5). God renew our youth like the eagle’s by satisfying your mouth with good things, not just things, but with good things.

How To Activate Your Faith

Faith is acting on what you believe. It is a two-sided coin, namely belief and action, and will only deliver as both sides are mutually inclusive. Until you act on what you believe you are not yet in faith. We see this in the story of the cleansing of the ten lepers.
“And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off” (Luke 17:11-12).
The Law of Moses forbade lepers living in the main stream society since they were outcasts and ostracised. This is why these lepers stayed afar off. When they walked along the streets they were to cry: “Unclean! Unclean!” so as to avoid contact with other human beings. This was why they stood afar off. But rather than cry, “Unclean!” they cried for mercy. “And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us” (Luke 17:13).
What was Jesus’ response? “And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests” (Luke 17:14). Jesus’ word was because Moses Law required that a cleansed leper showed himself to the priest that was to examine and certify him, if actually he was clean. It was only after the priest’s certification that he was readmitted into the society. For a leper to go to the priest means that he is very sure he is clean. He will also seek others’ assistance to certify him as clean. He dares not take a gamble on this.
Without praying for or laying hands on them, Jesus told them: “Go show yourselves to the priest.” Jesus’ word was pregnant with meaning. Maybe one of them first argued as to why they should go to the priest: “I thought the man would pray for us or ask us to fast for certain days rather than just instruct us to go the priest. Is it not risky to do so in our condition?” Perhaps another said: “We stand to lose nothing. Let us obey Him. We have heard enough about him to know that He will not deceive or ridicule us for asking Him for mercy.”
“A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth” (Isa 42:3 KJV). Two other translations put it thus: “He will not crush those who are weak or quench the smallest hope. He will bring full justice to all who have been wronged” (NLT). “He won’t brush aside the bruised and the hurt and he won’t disregard the small and insignificant, but he’ll steadily and firmly set things right” (MSG).

Manifestation Comes As We Act

The leprosy must have remained while they argued among themselves. “And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed” (emphasis mine). Went is an action word. They believed and acted. That was obedience. The manifestation of their cleansing took place as they went. Some people want to see it first before they believe. You have to act first before you see the manifestation.
As far as God was concerned they were healed as soon as Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priest. In heaven’s account that was when they were healed. That was why He told them, “Go and show yourselves to the priest. “…Faith calls the things that are not as though they were” (Rom 4:17). God sees the end before beginning anything. He concludes a matter before starting it. You were concluded before He started you. you did not start the day your mum received seed from your father; God had started and finished you, i.e. He went to your conclusion when He declared you good and then said: “I can now start.” Jesus went to the conclusion when He told the lepers to go and show themselves to the priest. In heaven’s record ten lepers had just been cleansed, even if they were still leprous physically. Heaven was waiting for them to put their faith into action for the confirmation. The manifestation came while acting, not while believing. By their act they moved beyond just believing. Until you act your belief it is incomplete.
Some people are believing to start a school but will not take any step. They are cowed by fear at the size of private schools that have become established institutions. But these schools started very small, some with as few as two children. Dare to start and it will grow. Job 8:7 says: “And though your beginning was small, your latter days will be very great” (ESV). What you need is just a step. It is your inaction that is holding you down. You have believed, prove it by taking steps.
The lepers were only cleansed when their action came online. “And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? (Luke 17:15-17 emphasis mine). This is the revelation: Jesus said, “Were there not ten cleansed?” Note that He spoke in the past tense, i.e. they were cleansed immediately He spoke the word, including while they argued among themselves. Jesus did not say that only one was cleansed when he returned to give thanks. Even without seeing the rest nine, He said: “Were there not ten cleansed?

Our Blessing, A Done Deal

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isa 53:5). “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses” (Matt 8:16-17). “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Peter 2:24).
In God’s eyes all His children are healed already, not that they will be healed; it is done already. It was because Jesus saw them cleansed that He told them to go and show themselves to the priest. By God’s word you are already healed of every disease. It is a settled matter in heaven, notwithstanding your present pain. What you need is to act so as to see the manifestation. God is waiting for your action.
You were not saved the day you gave your life to Christ; it happened the day Jesus resurrected. You only received salvation the day you gave your life to Christ.
What is required is to activate your faith by acting on your belief. As far as God is concerned whatever you believe Him for is a done deal. That is why Jesus asked if there were not ten cleansed. He was saying in essence: “I did not come to embarrass people. I would not have told you to go and show yourselves to the priest if I was not sure you were all healed. Where are the nine?”
“There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole” (Luke 17:18-19 emphasis mine). It was the leper’s faith that made him whole, not Jesus’ faith. His faith activated God’s power, even though it was God’s power that healed him. I know you believe but you need to go ahead to act on your belief. They would have remained lepers if they had refused to be on their way to the priest. Some believers ask for prayers, but if you tell them: “Go and have it; it is yours.” They are disappointed. They prefer to be told: “Beloved, your situation demands twenty-one day fasting to be solved.” I once told somebody who wanted to work in a bank: “Go and have it.” The next time I saw her, she was already a staff of the bank. What you need has been done. Don’t let anybody subject you to some painful exercises as though God is just going to try to work out your needs. All your needs have been met already. Jesus said: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
Your inaction is what is stopping you, not God. For example, you don’t need to pray to rebuke the devourer; it is God’s responsibility to do so if you are a tither. He said: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts” (Mal 3:10-12). Once you obey God you can rest assured He will not fail in His obligation.
There are several things we need not pray for if we will activate our faith through obedience and taking action. Prayer is no substitute to obedience or taking necessary action to activate your faith.
Perhaps these lepers remembered how Naaman was instructed by Prophet Elisha to go and dip himself in River Jordan seven times to be cleansed of his leprosy (2 Kings 5:9-14). He refused initially. But when he obeyed he was cleansed. They must have taken a cue from that to obey Jesus. Jesus knew the manifestation would come as they obeyed. I pray God to help you take necessary steps to get you from where you are now to where you need to be, in Jesus name.

Faith Can Fail

“And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren” (Luke 22:31-32).
Faith fails when it fails to act on God’s word that you believe. Refusing to act on what you believe results in faith failure and frustration. Elisha would not even appear to Naaman; he just sent words that he should go and dip himself in River Jordan and he would be clean. Naaman’s fury was irrelevant; he must obey to be clean. Faith without action will purchase nothing in the spiritual market. Your currency in the spiritual market must have two sides: faith and action. Faith is justified by action.
“What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that — and shudder. You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone. In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead” (James 2:14-26 NIV).
Faith without action is like a body without a spirit and that means death. Abraham acted! Rahab acted! You too must act to see your desired manifestation. You must take action on your belief. Until you obey God you will not enjoy His blessing. He will never force you to pay your tithe, evangelise or give. But for every act of disobedience there is a consequence. Don’t be afraid to take steps if you want to see manifestations. Act on your faith! You are elevated!

Two Kingdoms Contrasted

Kingdom speaks of a king ruling over a domain. The kingdom is not the earth; it is the functioning of the ruler over a domain. God told Moses: “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel” (Ex 19:5-6). As God’s children we are His kingdom on earth. David wrote: “Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth. The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men” (Ps 115:15-16).
A kingdom is a domain that is influenced by the king. God’s goal is the kingdom of heaven on earth. God wants to influence the earth through us the same way the Queen of England influenced the colonial territories through her appointed governors general. Her appointees were to pattern the lives of the colonies’ inhabitants after the British. In the same way God wants to influence the earth through His sons on earth.

The Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of Darkness

There are two expressions in the Bible: the kingdom of God and the kingdom of heaven. The kingdom of God refers to the headquarters, the actual impact of God’s influence. The kingdom of heaven refers to His impact on earth. It speaks of transfer of power. The kingdom of God refers to the actual rulership of God while the kingdom of heaven refers to the actual transfer of that rulership to a territory, the earth. So the kingdom of God is the rulership of God within the spirit of man while the kingdom of heaven is when that impact influences the environment. You can therefore take the kingdom everywhere you go. God wants you to impact everywhere you are for Him and in no time heaven will be duplicated everywhere, including offices, markets, schools, etc.
Man’s fall gave birth to the kingdom of darkness. Man did not fall from heaven; he fell from a throne and lost a kingdom, dominion, control and rulership over the earth. He handed it all over to the devil who then took charge. This is why the devil is called the god of this world, i.e. the evil system in the world. Darkness literally means ignorance just as knowledge means light. The kingdom of darkness is a domain by which the king, i.e. the devil, rules by ignorance.
“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them” (2Cor 4:3-4). Satan blinds people’s mind to plant them in darkness. This is why his greatest power is your ignorance. He blinds the mind because it is the seat of knowledge, understanding and wisdom. This is why he attacks the knowledge of God’s word. The first thing he attacked in the Garden of Eden was their knowledge of God’s word. He cast doubt on God’s instruction to Adam and Eve. “And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said…? (Gen 3:1). He told them that it was because God did not want them to be like Him that He forbade them eating the forbidden fruit. But they were already like God when He breathed into them the breath of life and transferred His characteristics into them.
Satan’s business always is to discredit God’s word. When God says you are healed, he tells you, “But you still have pains.” When God says “let the weak say I am strong,” he says, “But you are weak.” When God says, “Let him that is poor say I am rich,” the devil replies: “Okay, where is the money.”
Your mind was blinded before you were born again, but was not opened automatically after you were born again. The Bible admonishes us to become transformed by the renewing of our mind by the word of God (Rom 12:2). Satan is not afraid of you per se; he is afraid of God’s word inside of you because it is light. In the Parable of the Sower Jesus said that the devil removes the seed that is sown in the human heart (Matt 13:3-8). The seed is God’s word. Many believers do not want the word. That is the devil at work. He knows that he is done for once you begin to walk in the light of God’s word. He prefers you to be ignorant. So many people in church are ignorant. And ignorance of God’s word is responsible for the captivity and destruction of His people.
“Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst” (Isa 5:13). This is why God said: “…I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding” (Jer 3:15). Many people prefer prayer to being instructed in God’s word. Satan’s greatest nightmare is light. He knows that light is master over darkness any day. So he keeps you in darkness by keeping you away from the word. Even when you hear it he wants to remove it before you profit from it. God told Joshua:
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Josh 1:8). You have victory when you have the word. The aim of the kingdom of darkness is to destroy you while the aim of the kingdom of heaven is to give you life in abundance. Satan hates knowledge; he hates the word of God. But until you have the word you do not have light.
We all were born children of darkness; we did not know God’s word. But now that you are born again, God says, “Continue in my word” to have freedom. But not many people want to continue in the word. They do not want the word. An academic PhD without the knowledge of God’s word will still keep you in darkness. Until you have Christ and His word you are still in darkness. Satan only fears you when you have the true knowledge of God’s word.
You can be saved and not converted. The elder brother of the prodigal son was saved but not converted. He had a wrong mentality. The prodigal son was going the same way until God intervened. Salvation is instantaneous immediately you confess Jesus but conversion is a life long process. It speaks of the renewal of your mind. “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:31-32, 36).
Many are saved, few are free but very few are free indeed. It is your spirit that is born again, not your mind. It is through the process of renewing your mind by the word that you are converted. Although you are born again your mind needs to be renewed.
The kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness work contrary to the other; one is light while the other is darkness. Jesus came to restore the kingdom of light, the righteousness and holiness of God to man. The word righteousness is a legal word, and means right positioning. Jesus came to reposition us to have the right relationship with God so that we can access and enjoy God’s riches. Adam became unrighteous when he sinned and became disconnected and wrongly positioned.
An arrested citizen has his passport impounded so that he cannot travel. He becomes unrighteous and without freedom anymore. Though a citizen, he is denied his rights and is ruled by prison officials. So when Adam sinned God impounded his passport by His Spirit in him and he became unrighteous. He could not get anything legally from God again. He fell into the kingdom of darkness. But Jesus came to reposition us. So righteousness means right positioning. For example, when an ex convict is pardoned he receives full reinstatement. Jesus did not just pardon us; He repositioned us to our full rights because HE paid the full price. The Bible says: “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb 4:16).
God wants us to come boldly to the throne of grace. When Jesus gave up the ghost the curtain that separated man from the holy of holies was torn into two, thus restoring man’s access to God. As a citizen you have the right to go to God any time anywhere to claim His promises.

Abraham’s Covenant Covered Abraham’s Seed

In God’s covenant with Abraham, the Bible says that it was counted unto him for righteousness because he believed Him. As a result he was rightly positioned for God’s blessing. This was why God blessed him and His children. “And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself” (Luke 13:10-11).
The first thing Jesus did on meeting this woman was to address the righteousness question. “And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?” (Luke 13:16) Remember that God’s covenant with Abraham covered him and his seed. The children of Israel enjoyed a special place in God’s heart because they were repositioned through Abraham. Abraham’s daughters ought to claim the same promises of God. When the Pharisees protested, Jesus reminded them: “ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham”.
Zacchaeus a hated chief customs officer was saved because he was a son of Abraham. “And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham” (Luke 19:9). God’s covenant with Abraham rightly positioned him and his seed for blessing.
As a child of God you are in the kingdom. You are qualified to be in the kingdom. You have boldness to see your father. You have rights that no one can deny you. Satan has no right to oppress you anymore. Don’t be ignorant of your rights. This is why you must love knowledge.

Go for Knowledge

A pastor’s duty is to feed God’s people with knowledge. That is why you must fight whatever wants to keep you away from church so as not to listen to God’s word. You must also do everything possible to keep God’s word in your heart. Purchase tapes of messages and listen to them over and over till the word becomes a part of you. It is said that people forget 50% of what they hear 24hrs afterwards. Only about 25% of it is left after 48hrs till eventually they lose the rest. That is Satan at work. According to the Parable of the Sower only 25% of those present in church really pay attention to God’s word. These are people who bring forth fruit. This is why preachers need to keep teaching and preaching the word since it is not every one who really hears the first time the word is preached. Sometimes people hear but do not understand what they hear. That is Satan at work to keep people in ignorance as therein is His strength. You cease to be at his mercy the day you begin to walk in the light of the knowledge of God’s word. Fight every attempt to keep you away from God’s word.
Do you read your Bible? Do you read good Christian books? Do you take down notes you revisit after listening to God’s word till understanding comes? Understanding remains with you when it comes and at that point Satan is powerless against you. You are on top. You are a child of light; you are to walk in the light, and God’s word is light. You must go for light because it is your weapon against the devil. Jesus came as light into this world; it is no wonder demons trembled each time they encountered Him. The same Spirit that was in Jesus is in you. There is no small child of God; we all have the same Spirit of God in us if we are born again.

Rediscovering the Kingdom

God’s goal is the restoration of man’s rulership on earth. Jesus’ message and passion was the re-establishment and reinstatement of the kingdom of heaven on earth. The original purpose for man was God’s kingdom in men’s hearts. This kingdom is not an invasion of a physical territory but the birth of a kingdom in men’s heart. The kingdom is not heaven, even though heaven is the kingdom.
In the Lord’s Prayer, a pattern of prayer, Jesus said: “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven” (Matt 6:9-10). The first prayer point is: “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” God’s will is means His purpose or original intent, which is that man should have it on earth as it is in heaven. But Adam sold out to Satan who began to reign and duplicate himself on earth. This is why there is so much wickedness in the earth. Jesus’ mission is to restore to man what Adam lost.
Every prophet in the Bible preached the kingdom of God. “And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel” (Ex. 19:3-6). God’s purpose has always been to raise a kingdom of priests to Himself on earth.
God’s intention is that the earth would be full of heaven. Satan can’t stop this. The process of accomplishing this led to the call of Abraham whom God promised to make a great nation and bless him so that through him all the families of the earth would be blessed (Gen 12:1-3). God’s target is always the nations. Again, through Joseph He preserved the nations from perishing through famine by positioning him in Egypt. God’s plan always is to preserve the nations through a nation. That was why Joseph told his brothers that God sent him to Egypt to preserve lives.

Kingship and Priesthood

Kingdom and priesthood are two separate issues. Kingdom refers to rulership; a king is an administrator, a royal executive. God wants sons that are kings, not subjects. A priest is the spiritual representative of God on earth. He is a spiritual administrator. He represents God before the people as well as represents the people before God. He is saddled with the spiritual well being of the people. God’s original intent was that man should be both king and priest on earth. God’s children therefore are kings and priests.
Adam was both king and priest. But since the fall the two have been separated, contrary to God’s original purpose. Adam as king dominated and ruled over the earth while as a priest God visited him in the cool of the evening for fellowship. God has always wanted a priest with a crown. It was democracy that separated the priesthood from the kingship. Democracy was the Greek’s invention, not God’s. This is the reason for the call for separation of church and the state. This is not God’s will. Unfortunately, because of this misnomer ungodly men occupy public offices formulating and implementing policies that affect us all, whether good or bad.
Children of God should be involved in the political process. Take up membership of political parties and be involved in the internal process of nomination of candidates for elections. Vote to elect godly candidates to avoid being at the receiving end of bad leadership. In fact, aspire to occupy elective posts!
David was both a priest and a king. Any wonder he stood out among all Israeli kings. God’s special interest in David was because of his insight into God’s original purpose of kingship and rulership. David typified God’s original purpose of a priest and a king. This was why God said that Jesus would sit upon the throne of His father David. Again, He swore that David would not lack a man to sit on the throne of Israel. And so of Jesus we read: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this” (Isa 9:6-7).
God does not want you to leave your business for pastoring; he wants you to be the pastor in that business. Somehow the church has distanced herself from happenings in the society. The excuse is that we are not of this world. But the world speaks of the satanic system, not the physical structure. Since the church left everything to the devil, he now controls, exerts influence and replicates himself in every sphere of human endeavours. God wants you to take charge wherever you are. We are delaying Jesus’ return by not preaching this gospel of the kingdom to the nations. Nations speak of countries, ethnic groupings, professional callings, etc. We are to evangelise so as to extend the kingdom there.

Preachers of the Gospel of the Kingdom

John the Baptist preached the gospel of the kingdom. “In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt 3:1-2). Later he introduced Jesus as the one that would establish the kingdom of heaven. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace” (John 1:14-16).
The kingdom of man’s rulership over the earth was Jesus’ message. He said: “I have come that you may have life and have it in abundance” (John 10:10b). His message was the kingdom and how to enter into it. “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Nothing outside you is bigger than what is inside you. You are not in charge if anything outside you is bigger than what is in you. But God wants you to be in charge.
Apostle Paul preached the kingdom (Acts 28:30-31). He used all manner of persuasive words to convey the message of the kingdom (Acts 19:8; Acts 28:23) and persuading men to come into it. Jesus commands us to preach the gospel of the kingdom. He said: “And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt 10:7). This has always been the message but Satan has preoccupied us with other things to divert our attention. Jesus never preached prosperity or healing; He lived them because in the kingdom are prosperity, healing, joy, peace, etc. Being in the kingdom qualifies you to enjoy every blessing in it. You are not supposed to be a prayer project soliciting prayer from everybody. The life that Jesus gives is sickness-free, poverty-free, stress-free, etc. Ignorance is the reason we run after things and are still in captivity. Jesus said: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matt 6:33). Everything you need is in the kingdom.

You are Greater

“Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he” (Matt 11:11). Jesus said that John is greater than all the prophets in the Old Testament; however the least child of God is greater than John. Though the last of the Old Testament prophets, John had a New Testament revelation. While other prophets spoke about the kingdom, only John said the kingdom was at hand. Introducing Jesus to the public, John said: “This is the one I have been telling you about; He is the one to introduce the kingdom.”
John had the Holy Spirit now and then; but He was never fully resident in John like we have Him in us now. The kingdom was birthed the day the Holy Spirit descended to live in man, i.e. the Day of Pentecost. As a result of His presence in us the weakest among the children of God is greater than John.

Your True Identity

Jesus said that as a child of the kingdom you are greater than all the prophets including John the Baptist, the one greater than all other prophets, in spite of their exploits. But what makes you to be greater than them? It is the presence of the Holy Spirit in you. While the prophets had Him upon them briefly, we have Him always. You need to know who you are. Jesus said that since the time of John the Baptist there has been a gradual take over as the kingdom of God advances forcefully. You begin to advance forcefully as you understand the kingdom. It is the Holy Spirit the greater one that makes you to be greater.
Only Jesus had the Holy Spirit in Him uninterruptedly while on earth, even the disciples didn’t. No wonder He told them it was needful He left for heaven so He could send the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit in the heart of man signals the birth of the kingdom. The kingdom does not run away from things; it turns things around. It does not produce fearful men full of problems, but children that are greater than all the prophets we admire.
God expects you to be in charge; you are to have dominion over everything. You are God’s property and He cares for you. You are an ambassador. Ambassadors are worry-free. You are a priest and a king; you are to reign. Rev 5:9-10 says: “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”
You will sing a new song henceforth. You are a king and a priest.

Entrance into the Kingdom

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). To enter the kingdom you must be born physically and spiritually. You need a body. Only a spirit with a body is legal on earth. Jesus said that you must have a body, which you have through physical birth. Secondly, you must be filled with the Spirit.
Adam lost his vital connection with God when he lost the Holy Spirit. Though he had a body and a human spirit, the Spirit of God was gone. He was out of the kingdom of God. But although Adam lost the Spirit, He has returned to dwell in you.
The Holy Spirit in man is the direct connection between God and man. What Adam lost God has restored to us by the return of the Holy Spirit. The kingdom of God is within you because the Holy Spirit is in you. You are in charge now.
We must evangelise to bring others into the kingdom of God. Everybody in this world will live forever; but where will he live? God never created hell for man; He created it for the devil and his demons. But Satan has decided not to go alone, so he is working to take many people along. We are God’s ambassadors to frustrate that plan by telling others about the kingdom. We must preach the gospel kingdom if men will rediscover the kingdom. You are elevated!

The Good News of the Kingdom Pt 2
This is a resumption of our discourse of 23rd May. You can obtain a copy from the office
The good news of the kingdom refers to Jesus’ assignment or mission statement. “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” ((Matt 4:17). This was His first public statement. The word repent speaks of a radical change of the mind (of thinking and doing things the old way). Jesus came to change our thinking.
Jesus said: “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” (Matt 24:14). There are over six billion people on earth. India has about one billion people and only 10% are Christians. China with the largest population has only about 1% of her population as Christians. In Africa, you discover that quite a number of the over one billion people have not heard the gospel. But thank God the gospel is gaining ground gradually. Unfortunately many of those who profess to be Christians have not really heard the gospel of the kingdom. Much of what we hear is the means, the way and the door to the kingdom, but not the kingdom. Nicodemus saw the kingdom at work in Jesus which was why he went to Him. Though a religious leader what he saw in Jesus was different from what he was used to. He needed what Jesus had. Jesus responded by telling him how to enter the kingdom. “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3).
The focus of Jesus’ message was the kingdom. Unfortunately many sermons these days focus only on the door into the kingdom and not the kingdom itself. Most of Jesus’ parables centred on the kingdom and its lifestyle. Jesus’ assignment and preaching should be our assignment. The message of the kingdom has to do with the original plan of God and His plans to restore man to where he fell from. When Adam disobeyed God he fell from his position. Man did not fall from heaven, but from a position of authority and dominion. Gen 1:26 says, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
Man was the king of the earth before his fall. Jesus’ mission therefore was to restore man to this former position of rulership over the earth. Jesus brought the message of dominion, i.e. a domain where God’s influence is replicated by man. He came to restore the kingdom that existed before Adam’s fall. God’s purpose for man originally has been that man would have dominion over the earth. He wants to re-establish His kingdom on earth. He wants a family of sons, a commonwealth of citizens. We are citizens of heaven, members of the commonwealth of heaven. God desires relationship, not religion. Alas, many people in religious houses have no relationship with God. The Bible records that in the cool of the evening God would visit the garden to fellowship with Adam.
As children of God the Bible says that we are His ambassadors on earth. He has given the earth to man to manage with every right and authority of heaven. Heaven is the seat of govt and the earth is heaven’s property; I represent that govt. This is why you can cast out demons on earth; they are interlopers in our territory. Anywhere you are is heaven’s property. Nothing should harass you. You enjoy diplomatic immunity. In Egypt the angel of death passed over everywhere there was the blood of the lamb. Everyone within the house marked by the blood was spared, whether an Israelite or an Egyptian.
Your house is God’s property and under heaven’s protection. As a citizen of heaven you are under heaven’s govt’s jurisdiction. An ambassador is not just a person; he is a govt. He represents the totality of his govt. The Nigeria govt cannot harass the US ambassador, being a woman notwithstanding. As heaven’s ambassador on earth, I am dangerous; if you touch me you touch heaven. God is an enemy to my enemy, and a friend to my friend. When you meet me you are meeting heaven. I am a nation walking on two legs. God told Abraham: “I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee…” (Gen 12:3). This is what Jesus came to restore. Unfortunately Satan has used religion to blind many people’s eyes to this.
The harassment of an ambassador is an international incidence. You are that important. “For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye” (Zech 2:8). You represent heaven on earth. Adam enjoyed so much before the fall. Nothing should dominate you. You are to dominate, be in charge and have things the way you want. Jesus told Pilate, “I can ask for twelve legions of angels from heaven to fight for me if I so desire. That is how important an ambassador is.
When The Kingdom Was Birthed

The kingdom came back on the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Ghost was restored to man. This was the part of God that entered into man at creation when He breathed into him. That part is back. This is what Jesus kept talking about when He admonished man to repent because the kingdom of heaven was at hand. In Luke 17:21 Jesus said, “Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you”.
The kingdom is within you by the Holy Ghost that is within you; He is the one that gives you the rulership. That is your authority. You must have the Holy Spirit inside you to be able to represent God as His ambassador on earth. It was His departure from man that led to the loss of man’s rulership on earth. The return of the Holy Ghost therefore brought about the restoration of man’s rulership on earth. It meant man’s enthronement again.
In the Old Testament the Holy Spirit did not leave in anybody permanently. He only came on men for certain assignments and was gone as soon as the assignment was accomplished. It was in anticipation of this that Prophet Joel prophesied: “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit” (Joel 2:28-29).
While on earth Jesus was the only one that had the Holy Ghost resident in Him, even the disciples didn’t. This was why He told them: “…It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you” (John 16:7). The good news is that we can now have the Holy Ghost back in us. The kingdom of God came back to earth when men were born again and received the Holy Ghost. Remember that it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. The kingdom of God is love, joy and peace in the Holy Ghost. With the coming of the Holy Ghost we are back to where Adam fell from. We are God’s ambassadors on earth.

An Ambassador’s Responsibility

An ambassador never gives his personal opinion on any issue. He states and stands by his govt’s position. Jesus would often say: “As I hear so I speak. As I see so I do. He that rejects me rejects Him that has sent me. He that receives me receives Him that sent me.” As an ambassador I am to preach God’s word, not my personal opinion. Enough of religious activities devoid of power and which only results in confusion because of blinded minds. Our duty is to extend the kingdom by ensuring that everybody is born again and have the Holy Ghost dwell in them to spread God’s influence everywhere. God’s purpose is that we duplicate heaven everywhere, reproducing ourselves in others, just as Jesus reproduced Himself in us. Let every man repent and be born again. Let them receive the Holy Ghost in them. This is our responsibility as God’s ambassadors.
An ambassador doesn’t worry; he is cared for. The poverty in the country of his posting does not affect him. His representative in another country reflects His country. No matter the situation of famine in Nigeria, if need be the US govt can airlift supplies for her ambassadorial staff. Somebody sent him and it is the person’s responsibility to feed him and take care of his needs. The bills are picked up by the home govt. An ambassador enjoys the same honour and dignity as his head of govt. Now that we have been restored to our former position we speak on God’s behalf. Friend, you represent heaven; stop behaving like one miserable fellow in the world. You will stop worrying when you know who you are. The Bible says: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:6-7).
I represent the kingdom of heaven. My words have power. Whatsoever you bind… Why worry? You are of more value than the birds of the air. Your needs are supplied according to God’s riches. You are an ambassador.
Your govt will take care of your needs when you mind the kingdom business. Many people are suffering because they are not minding the kingdom business; they are breaking the rules. Tithing is not a personal opinion; it is a kingdom principle. You are breaking the rule when you disobey. Your opinion is irrelevant. When as an ambassador you begin to do your own thing you will be recalled immediately. An American general in Germany made an uncomplimentary remark about President Clinton about not taking part in military service. He was summoned and retired. When you do what your govt demands you enjoy its total backing.
Worry is not part of our lives. Religious people worry, but the kingdom citizens do not worry. Here on earth is your assignment as a kingdom citizen, not heaven. Our prayer is Thy kingdom come; thy will be dome on earth.”
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” (Gen 1:26-28).
Where was man when all these happened? “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth” (Rev 5:9-10).
Our reign is on the earth. Where God started from is where He will end it. It started on earth and will end on earth: “and we shall reign on the earth.” So Christ was manifested to destroy the kingdom of Satan. The devil entered into man and began to do what Adam was supposed to do; this is why he tries to exert his evil influence everywhere. This is what we see in the world of wickedness. But this was not God’s intention on earth. His intention is to have His influence on earth. That is why the Bible says that heaven rejoices when one person is born again. The Spirit of God enters into the person and begins to influence others, reproducing the kingdom of God everywhere. As this happens the kingdom of darkness is being destroyed. This is what Jesus came to do. That is your assignment. You are to destroy the kingdom of the devil. You are to bring heaven into the lives of those you come in contact with. You are to impact them for heaven so that they become agents of God too. God wants His Spirit back into every human body; we are the agents to do this till Jesus returns. The kingdom has come but we have to spread it. This is why we need to renew our minds to do things the kingdom way, not think or do things the world’s way (Rom 12:2).
Repeat aloud: I am an ambassador. I represent the kingdom of heaven. I am here to extend the kingdom. I am here to duplicate heaven on earth. That is my assignment. I am a citizen of heaven. I am a diplomat and I enjoy heaven’s diplomatic immunity. Whoever touches me touches heaven. Whoever wishes me evil is daring heaven. Where I live is heaven’s property. I enjoy angelic protection because the angels are on assignment. From today, I have no worry.

Appreciating God’s Gift

Dear reader, our discourse on the Gospel of the Kingdom will resume in the next edition. We apologise for the break.
God said: “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing” (Gen 12:2). God was saying in essence that His blessing would make Abram’s name great. As at this time Abram, (later changed to Abraham), was nobody and purposeless in life. But there was something God had put in him that He decided to call forth. Abram’s awareness of this was what he needed to make it and fulfil God’s purpose for his life.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Eph 1:3). God has given to us all that it takes to succeed in life. Pro 10:22 says: “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” Gal 3:14 says that God’s blessing has come upon us as children of. As a child of God you are blessed. You have to know and come to this awareness.
Abram began to move and to take steps the moment God’s word came to him. Gradually he walked into the greatness promised by God, thus joining the league of the great names in the Bible. Every child of God is blessed. You have to know and appreciate it. Until you appreciate God’s gift in you, you will not appreciate in life. Until you begin to see yourself as important because God brought you into this world as a gift you will not live to your potential. You are a gift to the world. You are to make the world a better place. You are such a gift that nobody comes in contact with you and remains the same. You must deposit something in the person’s life. I like you to begin to look inward appreciating this truth about you.
It is this blessing (this gift of God in you) that will make room for you on earth. Pro 18:16 says, “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.” You have a large room on earth.
In Matt 25:14-15 Jesus spoke a parable about a master that was to travel who called his servants and gave to each of them talents according to each person’s ability. That is to say that every one has something he is blessed with. Luke 19:12-13 tells us that the purpose is that each person would be busy. He told them: “Occupy till I come.” He expected each servant to take his highest position in life with the aid of that gift. What you need to be a great person on earth is inside you already. The problem is that many people do not come to appreciate the reality that we are blessed. They think that those enjoying this blessing are more favoured or luckier, whereas these people are simply manifesting the blessing of God in them. This breeds needless envy. You need not envy anybody. God has blessed you enough to attain greatness in life.
The point is that you are a channel of blessing, an agent of distribution of God’s blessing. You must recognise that you are blessed; this blessing will bring you to such greatness that you distribute the blessing till people are blessed through you. But you need to appreciate the gift of God to profit thereby.

APPRECIATION, WHAT IT MEANS

The word appreciation means to add to the price or value of a thing, to grasp the nature and significance of a gift. You have to add value to your gift. For example, Nigeria is blessed with crude oil, but mostly what we get from it is crude value because we do not appreciate it enough. Some other nations would have benefited much more if they had crude oil. To appreciate our crude oil we must exploit it to get every derivative from it, including some of the by-products we import at exorbitant prices. You are also blessed to become great in life. You will therefore be a disappointment if you leave this earth a small person. God’s promise is to bless you and make your name great.
Abraham succeeded because he became great. He was far from greatness before God spoke to him. But after God’s word he realised there was something in him that could make him great and become a blessing to others. To end your journey small means that you have wasted God’s grace invested in you. May it not happen!
Many people do not come to this realisation because God’s blessing, gift and talent come in seed form, and we despise them because of their seeming smallness and insignificance. If, however, you add value to this seed you will reap a harvest.
“Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness” (2Cor 9:10). Both food and seed come from seed. Nobody can quantify the value of one orange seed. As long as you keep planting orange seeds you will never stop harvesting oranges. In fact, before long, from that one arrange seed will be birthed orange plantations everywhere. You are like that orange seed. God has put a seed of greatness inside you; I call it blessing. What you do with it determines your position in life. You must realise that you are blessed and that you are a blessing, a gift to the world to make it a better place. God has expectation of you. I pray you will not disappoint Him, in Jesus name.

Appreciation is the Key

You have to appreciate a seed of wheat to get bread from it and even make further profit. You have to let that seed undergo some processes for it to become bread. Truth is that God has blessed us so that none should be poor. Of course, the Bible says that the poor will always be with us because God knows that some people will not appreciate their gift or blessing. You need a change of mentality.
Until you appreciate yourself you will not appreciate fellow human beings. You never know the value of a human being until you appreciate yourself. Because many of us grew up where we were devalued and treated less than animals we tend to treat others the same way when the opportunity comes. Even that house help so-called deserves to be treated fairly and with dignity. They may be disadvantaged today but they have a great future. God’s purpose is that He will bring about their greatness in life through you.
We must begin to appreciate God’s gift in us so as to appreciate others as gifts, notwithstanding their present helplessness. Recognise that there is a gift in them and be preoccupied with how to help them bring it to light so that they can be blessed and bless others. You notice that many Nigerians excel on leaving the shores of this nation; it is because they are given opportunities to excel. Be an agent of change and transformation. Begin to value people it will help you to address them courteously and respectfully. The best in people will manifest when you value them, just as the best in you comes out when you value yourself.
You need to place the right value on yourself and extend the same to others. You are worth more than you are earning presently if you will place the right value on yourself. Instead of being a teacher you can own a school. Instead of being an account clerk you can own a business. Are you on the way to greatness like Abraham? The best way to know if you are actually maximising God’s gift in you is to ask yourself if what you are doing now is leading you to greatness.
We need a change. Being black does not mean backwardness and satisfaction with small things. When you appreciate your gift it leads you to prosperity. That was why God told Abraham: “I will bless you and I will make your name great and then you shall be a blessing.” The question then is: am I blessed? If I am blessed then where is the greatness? It may not come overnight, but am I on the way? Somebody defines success as making satisfactory progress. You may not be there yet but are you making satisfactory progress? As a student the Bible says that you have the mind of Christ. That speaks of excellence. This blessing should lead you to greatness and make your name great. You have what it takes to be number one. The promise is that you shall be above only, and not beneath. First classers do not possess two heads; it is just a matter of appreciating your gift. A prize winner in one of our universities told herself, “I can make it too. I will stop reading novels and concentrate on my studies.” When in 200level she saw a student with aggregate 5. She eventually graduated with 4.9 points in Geography. You have what it takes to make it. You are a genius.
Are you satisfied with where you are? You must wake up. God gave you a seed; He expects fruits. He gave you music; He expects a song. He gave you an idea; He expects a business. Receive the courage to call forth God’s gift in you, in Jesus name. Most people who use you know your value, even if you don’t. They don’t want you to know that you are valuable. That is why they degrade and dehumanise you. It is the enemy’s trick to cage you so that you do not know who you are. You need to appreciate what is inside you. God’s gift is in you. Circumstance may delay its manifestation; but it will surely come out, particularly when you know it.
Until you appreciate the gift you have its value will not show forth. For you to be great you must begin to call forth what is inside you. Nigeria may be said to be poor; but it has nothing to do with you; you belong to a different covenant. You are blessed.

DO YOU KNOW AND APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE?

In 2 King 4:2, Prophet Elisha asked the widow what she had in the house. “Only a pot of oil.” She replied. She was poor because she could not appreciate what she had. But it was this same pot of oil that eventually kick-started her deliverance from debt and commenced her journey to prosperity. It’s always been in her house; she just did not appreciate it. Your body is your house and there is something in it to kick-start your greatness. It is time to start looking inward. God’s gift in you goes beyond your interest alone; position yourself to bless others. Use your resources to bless humanity; that is greatness. No matter what a man is worth, if he dies without being a blessing to others then he died a failure.
To be concerned with only yourself and your immediate family is contrary to the covenant. Start looking beyond yourself; you are a world personality. You are a blessing to the world. Your name begins to be great as you begin to be a blessing to the world. That is why the Bible says that we have been brought into the blessing of Abraham. All of us are partakers of Abraham’s blessing because he made it available for us. Even Lot who followed Abraham was very rich because Abraham’s blessing flowed to him. Why should you be the only fat cow in the midst of your employees? Why should they feed like rats while you feed like an elephant? Africa is the most blessed in terms of natural resources, regrettably, it is the poorest continent. It is a function of appreciation of her gifts. As a result African countries have accepted poverty as a way of life. That is why they are always cap in hand begging for aids even in the midst of plenty.
It is not how much you have in your pocket that determines how rich you are. It is your heart. God’s word says you are blessed. But this blessing is in a seed form. As you begin to work on it, it will turn to fruit.

HAVE CONCERN FOR OTHERS

“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life” (1 Tim 6:17-19).
Are you concerned about the needy around you? Giving is not subtraction; it is multiplication. It is a manifestation of greatness. You must aim to bring about a change wherever you are as you diligently work on God’s gift in your life to be blessed and be a blessing. You must appreciate the gift of God in you if you want to appreciate in life. You must also appreciate others, knowing that they are gifts to the world too, even if they are disadvantaged today. It is time you began to see that you are a gift the world is waiting for its manifestation so that mankind can be blessed.

Holding Fast Our Confession

Our discourse on The Gospel of the Kingdom continues in the next edition.
“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Rom 10:10). “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them” (Mark 11:23-24).
Faith is measured by our confession. You have to confess what you believe. The twelve spies sent to the Promised Land returned with two confessions which situated them in two groups. Ten of them said they were incapable of taking the land while Joshua and Caleb replied: “We are able to take the country because God has said so. In fact, the people are bread for us. Let us go up at once!” Your confession is the measure of your faith. We eventually become what we confess, good or bad. Num 14:28 reads: “Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you.”
Failure to confess God’s word can hinder your faith. It makes an incomplete circle. It is like walking on one leg. Many Christians are defeated because of their negative confession, eventually sinking to the level of their confession. They focus on what they see physically, not on God’s word.
The twelve spies saw the same thing. Ten walked by sight while two walked by faith. God had promised to give them the land; that was what the two believed and confessed. God expects us to say the same thing He has said. What you see physically is inconsequential. Believe and speak God’s word. Joshua and Caleb saw with their spiritual eyes, the eyes of faith. They believed and confessed God’s word. Faith confession lifts us to the level of our confession. The scriptural law is, “He shall have whatever he says” (Mark 11:24). This is the law that rules our lives. We are what we say. No matter the situation, we shall have what we say.

The Woman with the Issue of Blood (Mk 5:24-32)

This woman said in her heart, “If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole” (Mark 5:28). She kept saying it till she met Jesus. The crowd would not deter her because she had rehearsed it to herself. It was her faith that pushed her through to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, and what she said came to pass. “He shall have whatsoever he saith.”
What others are saying doesn’t matter; it is what you are saying that determines what you receive. So for somebody to say that you will not prosper is futile. Nobody’s word matters against you; only your word does. “He shall have whatsoever he saith.” Shouldn’t you be saying something in line with God’s word so that He will do it?
Faith demands expression and testimony. Testimony is a part of the faith life, plus the testimony of who you are in Christ. All that Christ did for us by His death and resurrection are documented in the Scriptures and form the basis of our testimonies. Continually declare them to yourself and your faith will develop. They are not necessarily testimonies you declare on the altar; you declare them to yourself always.
You can read up David’s testimony before King Saul before taking on Goliath (1Sam 17:34-37). David called Goliath, “this uncircumcised philistine…” not the giant that others called him in fear. Even the king told David he couldn’t fight Goliath. But David said Goliath was not better than the lion and bear God delivered into his hands. The more you talk about what God has done for you the realer it becomes to you.
Jesus never stopped talking about who He was and His mission on earth. “I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father” (John 16:28). “Jesus saith unto him … He that hath seen me hath seen the Father …” (John 14:9). His confession often caused problem between Him and the Jews. One day He told them, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day.” That was a stinger! They fired back: “How dare you! How old are you? You are not even fifty yet. You a carpenter’s son call yourself the Son of God thereby equating yourself with Him?” Continue with your confession even if it angers some people.
Some people are going to get mad at you when you declare you are rich although no dime is in your pocket. One of your toes may be shooting out of your torn shoes. They will lampoon you when you declare that you are the righteousness of God in Christ.
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together” (Rom 8:16-17).
Christ shares all that He has with us. We are seated together at the right hand of God in Him. He ceased to be the only Son of God after His resurrection; He became the firstborn of the family and all others that are born again are His younger ones. I am His younger brother. I rose with Him from the dead. Repeat aloud:
I am a son of God, not a slave. I am joint heirs with Christ. I am seated with Christ on the right hand of the Father, far above all principality and powers.
Find out what God’s word says about you, write it down and meditate on it. Make it your daily confession. The more you say it the realer it becomes in your life.
Whatever God says about you is a done deal. For example, Gal 5:24 reads: “And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” For those who belong to Christ this is a done deal. You can therefore read like this: I belong to Christ. I have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts thereof.” As you keep confessing it, very soon it will become a reality to you. It is important how you read it, either as a present reality or a future reality. But it has happened already. This is how God sees you; you need to see yourself that way too. This is who you are and what you have in Christ.
Faith confession creates reality. First, you believe with your heart and next confess unto reality. As far as God is concerned, everything you are and have in Christ is so. He is a God of faith. He called Gideon a mighty man of valour although the picture we see of Gideon is that of a coward. You are everything God has made you; that is the way He sees you. It’s a different thing how you see yourself. This is where confession comes in. Confession implies acceptance of the way God sees you. You may not measure up to that in your estimate and that of the world, but that is who you are.

Jesus Operated in Faith

Jesus’ twelve disciples ran away following His arrest. Three days later after His resurrection He went in search of them. Would you still believe in those who abandoned you in your moment of trial? But Jesus still had confidence in them to task them with the work of the kingdom. Some of us do not give those who fail us a chance to bounce back. Much potential has been destroyed because people manifested certain weaknesses and we threw them away. God is different. He believes in you more than you probably believe in yourself. He knows what He has put in you. In no time these erstwhile ‘failures’ turned the world upside down with the gospel. If Jesus were not a Jesus of faith He would have given up on them. God believes in you.
You may see your weakness but God sees your strength. You may see poverty but God sees a rich you. This is why you should say what He says, not what you see or feel physically. God’s word is superior to what you see physically just as truth is superior to fact. You are whatever God says you are. God’s word is a legal document sealed by the blood of Jesus. However, it is your believing it and confessing it that makes it a reality to you. The prodigal son and his brother had equal rights in their father’s house, but the elder one never knew it. It was the father that told him that the things he longed for had always been his. So there are many things that have always been ours; it is confession that will bring them to reality.

What to and How to Confess

“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Rom 10:10).
What you believe in your heart becomes a reality as you begin to confess it. This scripture applies to every other thing you believe. You must confess it to bring it to reality. Faith confession creates reality. Below are a few examples.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Rom 10:9-10).
This confession changes our lordship and defines our position. When arrested by the Police, you are told: You have a right to remain silent as anything you say will be used against you in a court of law.” It simply means that your mouth could put you in trouble. Confession of the lordship of Jesus implies a change of position. We have been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God’s dear son. You are saying that Jesus is now your Lord. David said: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Ps 23:1). David knew God. Many of the expressions in the Psalms are his confessions. Examples are Psalms 23, 91, etc. He didn’t even have the light we have now.
“For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring” (Acts 17:28). In Christ I live; I have life; I have energy for impossible tasks.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2Cor 5:17). I have the life of Christ. I have the nature of God in me. I am a new creature in Christ Jesus, with the life of God, the nature of God and the ability of God in me.
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2Cor 5:21). I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. My standing with God is secured. That is what God has made me and I am not afraid to confess it.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” (Rom 8:1). There is no more condemnation for me because I am in Christ Jesus.
“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption” (1Cor 1:30).
Jesus is made unto me wisdom. I have the wisdom of God. I am a genius. He is made unto me righteousness.
“For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ” (Rom 5:17).
I have received abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness; I reign as a king in this life.
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed” (1Peter 2:24).
I have been made whole by the stripes of Jesus. I am made whole already.
“The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death” (Rom 8:2).
Locate scriptures such as these; write them somewhere for meditation and confession always. Paraphrase them if need be. For example, whatever I lay my hands on shall prosper. Things are getting better for me every day and everywhere. My health is getting better. My finance is improving daily. God is bringing people my way to help me to fulfil my assignment. I am enjoying God’s favour. Today is a good day. I am returning home with a testimony. The Lord is my shepherd and I shall not want.
Do you desire a spouse? Call him or her forth. I call forth my spouse in Jesus name. It is written I shall not want my mate (Isa. 34:16).
Stop living in sin consciousness. When something happens do not think that God is punishing you because of a sin you have repented of.
No sickness can kill me. A healthy life is natural with me. Winning in life is natural with me. I have God’s nature. I will prosper. God loves me and I love Him too. He prepares a table of fat things for me in the presence of my enemies. I am a champion. I am a transformer. I am here to make a difference. I am having it the way I want it, in Jesus name.

What Is Life?

There are probably divergent views on what life really is. But Jesus said: “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” (Matt 6:25) Life, Jesus said, is more than eating and drinking or making ends meet. Sadly, basic necessities of life such as food, shelter, clothing, etc. are most people’s preoccupation on earth. You are missing it when you live your life in pursuit of money to enjoy the good life so-called.
Continuing, Jesus said: “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” (Matt 6:26) You are much more than a soulless animal. It is tragic to have life and not know what it is. Any of these three below will likely occur when you do not know what life is:
1. Abuse is inevitable. Many people abuse life not knowing what it is.
2. Harming others is inevitable in an attempt to live life. Instead of making the world a better place you will make it miserable. You will enslave, cheat and manipulate others for your benefit alone.
3. Being abused is inevitable. You will be used by others when you don’t know what life is. You will be taken advantage of and misled to live anyhow as though you are unaccountable to God.
When people mark birthdays we thank God for the gift of another year. But life is not just a gift; to think it is a gift is to misuse and eventually abuse it. Life is a loan; you will account for it. To obtain loan thinking it is your share of the national cake is a fallacy; you will pay it back some day. Friend, life is not just a gift; it is a loan; be careful how you live it. On your birthday, God gives you another year. Oh that you will see this ‘another year’ as a loan to account for some day; you will be careful how you live it.

The Rich Fool

“And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? (Luke 12:16-20)
This story is instructive. Having recorded a huge harvest, he set out to build bigger barns to store his grains. Then he told his soul, “Soul, you’ve got plenty to last you many years. Let God withhold the rains if He likes, you have no care in the world; you’ve got it all made up for you in these barns…” That night God came knocking! He told him: “Thou fool, that soul is mine. I am taking it back tonight; you can do what you like afterwards.” Making a better use of your life begins with seeing it as a loan. Until you know who you are, why God created and placed you on earth, life will simply be a confusing experiment.

There is a Day of Reckoning

For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey” (Matt 25:14-15).
On the master’s return, each servant was summoned to render his account. Talents, skills, special abilities and endowments, etc. are not just gifts; they are loans. The first and second servants saw their talents as loans, something to trade with to make profit. No wonder they both made 100% profits. Alas, the third servant buried his one talent. He returned it as he got it. He was damned for his slothfulness and carelessness. This third servant represents majority of the people in the world and the church. His grouse was over the one talent received, forgetting that it is not how many but how well it is used. He forgot that to whom much is given from him much is expected. God will not call you to account for what He has not given to you. If this servant had made 100% profit with his talent he would have received the same commendation as the others. We will all account for the life we have received. Your life is not your own; you will account for it.

We Are Saved to Serve

We are saved to serve, to produce good works. Our last two editions were on Our Dominion Mandate, an insight into why God created and placed man on earth. “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth” (Gen 1:26).
Understand that being on earth for you is not just to make a living. In Transformation Chapel, our mantra is: “I am here to make a difference.” You are an ambassador to do God’s will, represent and replicate heaven on earth. The first prayer point Jesus taught us is: “Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth.” You represent a kingdom earth. You are here to impart men with God’s Spirit so that they can do the work that Adam lost. What kind of welcome will you receive when your life on earth is ended? Will it be: “Well done, faithful servant…”
Just ask yourself: What do I want to do with my life? What am I inspired to do? What will I want to do more than anything else, even if I am never paid to do it? What do I love to do so much that I even forget to eat? Think it through; don’t just be influenced by the opinions of others. (Pls read Matt 25:14-30; it is a parable of appreciation. Do you appreciate the life God has given to you? “Thank you” is a response to a gift, but appreciation is a function of what you do with what you received. You can be thankful and never do anything the gift. It means you are not actually appreciative. You must take responsibility with your life and make the most of it. The following will help you to do this: Sit down and write your legacy. What will you like your heavenly account to read when you leave the world? Regrettably, when somebody dies in Africa he is a good man, even if he was a devil incarnate.

The Story of Alfred Nobel

Alfred Nobel invented the dynamite, a weapon of mass destruction. One day his brother died. Mistaking him for his brother, newspapers were awash with Alfred’s death. The only thing worth saying about him was the manufacture of a weapon of mass destruction. Alfred was saddened by what he read. He told himself, “So this is what history will remember me for?” Alfred decided to rewrite his eulogy by setting up a trust fund with the proceeds from the sale of the dynamite to promote and celebrate excellence in human endeavours. This is the story of the Alfred Nobel Prize which aims at encouraging research and scholarship. Today, Alfred Nobel is better known for the Nobel Prize than for the dynamite.
What will your legacy read if you were to leave the world stage now? Not many people have Alfred Nobel’s opportunity to read their eulogy before they die. It happens perhaps once in a generation. What have you even done to warrant anything worthy of documentation? A Nobel Prize is worth $1.4m, once won by our own Prof Wole Soyinka for literature. Are you adding value to life or you are devaluing life? The world may celebrate you, and that is where it ends. But you will only give account to the One who gave you life, not the world.

What Will You be Known For?

What will you want to be known for? What will your family members, colleagues, neighbours, and others remember you for? There are names nobody wants to be called because certain individuals destroyed them. For example, Idi Amin, Hitler, Mobutu Seseko, etc. the corpses of some of these men would not even be accepted back home for burial.
Is God pleased with your life? How excited are you about the things of God? Is being in church a matter of personal relationship with God or a duty? Do you have a passion to make any tangible contribution through your involvement spiritually, physically and financially towards the establishment of God’s kingdom on earth? What kind of a husband will you want to be remembered as? What kind of a wife do you want to be remembered as? Being a child of God means being a light and salt to the world. What kind of impact are you making on the society? Will you be remembered for the kindness you showed or the wickedness you unleashed on the helpless and underprivileged?
You are accountable to God for every day you live. This is why David prayed: “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” (Ps 90:12). David must have looked at the lives of those who lived so long and yet contributed nothing significant to the world. Methuselah lived 969yrs and all he had to his record was that he begat sons and daughters and died. But read Hebrews 11, a compendium of the stories of men and women whose not too long lives are written in gold because they lived significantly. It is not how long, but how well that matters. Many people are mere spectators in life; they are not making any tangible contribution to life. There is no award for being a spectator; step out and be a participant.
Heaven will not reckon with you until you are involved in making tangible inputs towards making the world a better place. I notice that those who complain the most about money in churches are the least committed financially to the kingdom. They do not care how the bills are paid; they are the supervisors and referees in God’s kingdom. Are you a blessing to God’s household and fellow men? Who will miss you when you are gone from here?

Write Your Personal Legacy

What kind of name do you desire to have after you are gone? Write your personal mission statement; let it reflect what you want to accomplish before you leave the earth. As a child of God, it should be in line with God’s purpose for your life. Some people are dead but they are still with us. Their lives continue to influence us. Jesus who has impacted the world the most lived for only 331/2 years physically. Where and how these men and women who left indelible footprints on the sands of time were buried are not very important; their deeds are more important.
God brought me here on assignment that is tied to the establishment of His kingdom, to serve Him and humanity, to do His will for them. On the cross, Jesus said in John 19:30, “It is finished!” Elsewhere, He said, “I have finished the work which thou gave me to do.” In 2Tim 4, Paul said: “I have finished my course…” Do you know your own course or you just exist? Don’t live as if death is the end of life. For man, death is a transition to everlasting life, once you are born. There is eternal life and eternal damnation, you make the choice and you will live forever.
Some people live as though they will not return to God to account for their lives when the curtain is drawn on their lives on earth. Man does not really die; he just transits to live forever, as his body returns to the ground from where it was taken. You must live with eternal perspective. Whatever you do in the church or for others should be seen as God’s work. Live with this mindset when you pay your tithe, give offering or reach out to the needy. Do everything as unto God, the faithful rewarder.
Your life’s vision should motivate and keep you going towards your dream in life. Paul said: “And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you…” (2Cor 12:15) Paul’s kind of commitment to living is the reason he is still around though long gone. Can that be your testimony? He died a martyr because he was spent after spending all he had. About David, the Bible says: “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep” (Acts 13:36). That means that he fulfilled his assignment.
In Rev 2:4, Jesus said: “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” Have you left your first love? Do the things that once matter to you still do? You need to go back to where you started from. Life is not just a gift; it is a loan. How are you living your life?
Men may say whatever they like after you are gone, but God’s final assessment of your life is what really counts. Do you have a service account with God? What are you willing to do for the kingdom? Solomon so loved the Lord that he offered a thousand bullocks as sacrifice to Him in a single worship! You need to reflect on your life so as to apply your heart to wisdom. However, this begins with being born again. Are you born again?
